Deacon John Logan's exhortation to MCCLA--January 20, 2008
Deacon John Logan has been with MCCLA gave an inspired exhortation to the congregation of MCCLA Sunday, January 20, 2008, during communion. John has many years of experience sharing in the ministry of MCCLA through most of its moves and all four of the buildings MCCLA has owned. This word of encouragement and direction comes to us at such a time that the ministry and congregation of MCC Los Angeles is obligated to move from its current location at 8714 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood (where MCCLA has enjoyed 14 years in the heart of West Hollywood’s gay community) at the end of April, 2008 into an unknown future. “I really feel the power of the Lord this morning! I feel the power of God! And you know the most amazing thing to me this morning is that when that the Lord and God get together and they decide that we are going to get the message… I’ve heard it three times already, and you’re going to hear it a fourth! Because I want to tell you… I can remember when we were on the street in 1973… we we’re saying ‘Well, what are we going to do about the service?’ We didn’t have a building (it had been burned down). We were in the street. We had our service in the street! Over a thousand people showed up for that service. Then we had to ask ‘Where are we going to meet next week? Where are we going to have service?’ We met at the Encore Theatre, again. And we kept doing this until we could do what we had to do. I’m telling you this morning what we—as a people—have to do: We’ve got to become closer, one with the other, and we’ve got to learn that God has a place for us—God really has a place for us—but we’ve got to work for it. And the only way we’re going to have that is by compassion for one another, as the pastor said. We have to have the ability to come together… and do what God wants us to do! And I think, right now, we’re not. Everybody’s saying ‘Well I don’t know where we’re going but I hope we can find some place where we can get together.’ That’s not it! We have got to get together and work with Christ. I don’t know what’s gotten into me, this morning, but the pastor has opened my eyes, this morning, and I realize, we’ve got to work harder, we gotta pray on it. Pray on it, people, not individually, but collectively. We’ve got to come together. If you can’t be here on Wednesday, get together during the week! Some of you there, three here, four there, six over there: Christ will be there! And you can pray and say ‘we’ve gotta have a building where we can get together.’ I think I’ve said enough already, so let’s just pray: We thank You, God, and most of all we thank you for giving us a man who can give us the Word through You—the word that we can have to understand and know where we have to go and what we have to do to have the things that You would have us to have. Bless each and every one of us who is here, this morning, Lord, and give us that peace and give us that understanding, and let us know, Lord that we have to follow You! We have nothing else! That’s why we’re here, so that we can come together in Your Name, and bless You, and thank You, and give You all the praise until that wonderful day where we can all come together in Your House. Amen!” l |
