Items of Interest at MCCLA
Ongoing Opportunities to Minister:
Helping Hands Offering
- The fourth Sunday of every month is our Helping Hands Offering Sunday, alternating between HopeNet, Brown Bag and our Paul Gronberg Benevolence Fund.
Brown Bag Lunches
- Make sure you mark your calendars for the second Sunday of every month to come together to help make sandwiches after services. The 300+ lunches that we put together are then taken to those who are in dire need in downtown Los Angeles. Drivers are always needed. It is a guarantee…you WILL be blessed by this ministry! See Garret Klindt for more questions.
HopeNet Needs Volunteers – Fridays & Saturdays
- HopeNet needs volunteers to organize and distribute food from the Loz Feliz Food Pantry at Mt. Hollywood UCC! For more information, contact Jose Narciso (jaybeen@sbcglobal.net), Art Fisher, or Bill Shepherd. Volunteers are especially needed on Fridays from 1:00 – 3:00 PM to unload food and organize it for distribution and also on Saturdays from 8:00 – 11:00 AM for distribution at the food pantry. We are also seeking hand can-openers to be donated so that we can offer them to those who are in need of them who come to the pantry. HopeNet is an interfaith effort to eliminate hunger and homelessness in Los Angeles by providing food, shelter and self-help assistance to families and individuals.
You Can Help by Donating Food to the MCCLA Food Pantry
Deacon Garret Klindt reports that more people are now using our ICM/MCCLA Food Pantry than ever before … not only those on Sunday but throughout the week. If you are able to make a contribution it would be much appreciated by all. It is a wonderful thing that our church is helping those in need. Gifts that would be particularly welcome include:
- Boost. (Chocolate preferred, but all flavors appreciated. Boost is the desired nutritional supplement as it doesn’t need to be refrigerated to taste good).
- Canned vegetables or foods.
- Applesauce
- Hygienic products. (Soaps, toothbrush/toothpaste, combs).
- Bottled water.
Celebrate a Special Occasion – Say It With Flowers!
- Every week we have the opportunity to be able to say “I Love You,” “Happy Birthday,” “Thank You,” “Happy Anniversary,” “In Loving Memory,” … and more … with the beauty of flowers at the altar. To order flowers or find out more information, leave a message in the church office at 323-669-3434.
Would You Like to Volunteer at MCCLA?
- The Church Office is seeking reliable volunteers to help out during the week. You will be a blessing … and will be blessed! Contact the church office at 323-669-3434 for details.

Food for Food Program
Helping Those in Need While You Shop at Ralphs
- Every year we remind you of our partnership with Ralphs grocery store. They have a community program where you can register your Ralphs card with them and they will donate a percentage of your purchases to a community organization…and it costs you NOTHING. We have been a part of this program for years and your participation has helped us out throughout this time. This year, however, we will be designating the amount we receive from this project to go to a Hospice in Tijuana that especially serves families with children who are affected by HIV/AIDS.
- Register your Ralphs card to contribute to MCCLA. It is necessary to re-register every September 1 to continue your support. (Re)Register NOW and Shop, Save and Donate! Go to http://mccla.org/ralphs_card.html and follow the quick and easy steps to make your purchases count. You may pick up a form you to bring to Ralphs at the information table in the Fellowship Hall if you are already signed up and just need to renew but you will need to register your card online in order to contribute to the program.
Donate Your Used Jeans to “Jeans for Life”
- Donate your used jeans to benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The Jeans for Life program is a fun, easy way for everyone to donate toward the care of people living with HIV/AIDS. By simply donating a pair of jeans you can reach people around the world. Look for the specially marked bin in the Fellowship Hall.
Going Green at MCCLA – We Recycle!
- You may wonder…does MCCLA recycle? The answer is, absolutely! We pay for an extra service at our site for all of the material put in our trash bin to be handsorted with the recyclables to be pulled out and sent to a recycling center. So don’t worry if you throw your bottles or cans in the garbage cans…they are going to be recycled! Concerned about our environment and how you can take tangible steps that are spiritually-based to make this Earth a better place? Log on to the National Council of Churches of Christ Eco-Justice Programs website at http://nccecojustice.org/ and learn more. Included on this site are things that can be done in regard to the oil spill in the Gulf region.
