Many within the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities serve or have served in the United States’ Military. However, even though they serve(d) faithfully and honorably, until very recently, they have not been able to openly serve as the authentic persons that they are. They have served in silence and often dishonorably discharged due to unjust laws. Even though the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell legislation is nearing the end of its time, these servicemembers and their family still need support.
At MCCLA, we have a military ministry that offers support to active military, veterans and their families, often time in the form of communication as well as “care packages.” We have also had letter writing campaigns as well.
